Chowking Franchise in the Philippines: History and How To

November 8, 2020 by Carby 4 Comments

The influence of Chinese culture into the Filipino’s way of life cannot be denied as it takes on a substantial impact most especially with the eating habits of Pinoys. This is where the sought after Chinese style fast food gets its inspiration as it offers a fusion of the Chinese and Filipino cuisine all in one store named Chowking. It does not only provide its customers great tasting food choices but the awesome part is that it is priced affordably that almost anyone can stop and grab a bite. Moreover, its presence in the quick food business puts this fast food chain to the edge in providing fast and mouth watering Chinese and Filipino dishes.

Company History

Robert Kuan is the founder of this enjoyable and appealing ‘Chinese themed’ fast food chain. He primarily thought of making a local counterpart of the giant global fast food chain McDonald’s. With this in mind, Chowking was born and its unique concept immediately brought her to success. This also paved the way in engaging Chowking into a collaborative partnership with Jollibee Foods Corporation in the year 2000. Thus, Jollibee acquired Chowking and started to expand aggressively both in the local and international markets as well. To date, it has more than 20 branches worldwide that includes a store in the United States, Middle East and Indonesia. With its delectable food products, definietely there is nowhere to go but up. With the increasing demands of Chinese delicacies all over the world, Chowking franchise will surely spell success in the end.

Franchise Information

An interested applicant should primarily have the financial acumen to start a Chowking franchise aside of course from being a keen entrepreneur, a good leader and one who possesses good moral character. Franchise fee is P1Million pesos exclusive of VAT and the required investment fee ranges from P13 Million to P15 Million for leased site. This amount still depends on the size of the store. This investment fee covers construction, kitchen facilities, furniture and fixtures and signage. The typical Chowking store size must at least have an area ranging from 250 to 300 square meters. Moreover, the franchise is only offered to individuals but if corporation is formed, the franchise is still granted to the person who owns majority of the shares. The contract is food for ten (10) years which is renewable for another term on the condition that provisions stated in the contract are met. Lastly, there is a royalty fee – 6% of gross sales and marketing/advertising fee of 4% gross sales.

Expected ROI

This all depends on the sales and cost performance of the store, the projected investment payback ranges three (3) to four (4) years. There is a detailed financial feasibility study that is presented and discussed to the possible franchisee conducted during the evaluation stage.

How to start your Chowking Franchise Application

If you are interested to start your own Chowking branch, bear in mind that location is the key. Thus, the applicant should first look for an ideal site as a start. Chowking will then do the feasibility study for this proposed site. This will be the basis for the approval or rejection of your application. Approximately it would take 8 to 10 weeks for this process.   Below are the initial steps you need to undertake

  1. Accomplish these necessary requirements for your application:
  • letter of intent
  • duly accomplished application form
  •  location map of the proposed site
  • project proposal and preliminary study on territory of interest
  1. If completed, mail the above documents to:
Business and Franchise Development Department
33F Jollibee Plaza, F. Ortigas Jr. Road (formerly Emerald Avenue)
Ortigas Center, Pasig City
  1. Once application and site is approved, you will be informed and a meeting is required for the signing of the franchise contract.
  1. After the signing, the store takes about two to four months to open.
  1. An evaluation process is then conducted after the store has opened focusing on the financial feasibility and ROI concerns.
