Filipinos love chicken. We enjoy a variety of chicken specialties and one of our favorites is chicken barbecue. One of the fastest growing fast food chain in the country which specializes in chicken barbecue is Mang Inasal. Inasal is the Hiligaynon for barbecue so Mang Inasal literally means Mr. Barbecue. Mang Inasal is founded in 2003 in Iloilo City by Edgar Sia II. He is a young architect and entrepreneur who had his first business at a tender age of twenty. At the age of 26, he ventured in the food business and opened his first Mang Inasal branch in December 2003 at Robinson’s Mall Carpark in Iloilo.
The company started franchising in 2005 and by 2008 it already has 10 franchised restaurants and a total of 23 were opened. Jollibee Food Corporations acquired 70% of Mang Inasal in October 2010 for 3 billion pesos and as of March of this year, it has grown to about 460 stores nationwide.
